Day One of Malta Fashion Week 2014 has finally arrived! At 10:30am I was on the spot awaiting the shows by Creative Factory 7 and Ritienne Zammit. The designers could not have been more different in their concept, however they both managed to wow everyone with their collections.
Creative Factory 7 // BIOSPHERE
BIOSPHERE, which is the name of their collection, is all about life on Earth and the ecosystem, composed of all living species and their interactions. Upon arrival, I noticed 10 paintings and immediately suspected they had something to do with the show. In fact, they had been wielded and incorporated into the 22 outfits by CF7, ranging from morning to evening and casual to formal wear.
"I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities" - Nelson Mandela.
While designing their collection, CF7 kept Mandela's quote in mind, expressing how humans are now striving for power, money and personal success.
This concept was perfectly incorporated into the designs while managing to create an actual wearable collection.

And my favourite from the collection --
Ritienne Zammit // AMEN
As can be noted from the name, AMEN endorses one of the Maltese oldest traditions, religion, while giving it a contradictory twist. The Catholic theme combines the contemporary with the past, toying with different patterns and incorporating them into unusual textures. The collection revolves around rebellious attitudes in urban cultures, while clashing with the concept of religion. The main colours were red, gold and black, with the first two being highly associated with local church decorations.
Ritienne's creativity was highly evident behind this ingenious collection, as she managed to take one of the Maltese' traditions that is highly respected by the older generation and give it an exceptional spin.
