PARASCANDALO Fashion Show // SERIOUSLY BLACK

Photography: Kurt Paris

Yesterday I attended Parascandalo Marco's SERIOUSLY BLACK fashion show at the Auberge de France in Vittoriosa.

Parascandalo Marco made his debut at the Malta Fashion Week 2014, forming part of the New Designers Show. The designer awed everyone with his 'very' Maltese but with an East London twist, minimal collection composed of white tees stamped with colloquial Maltese slogans. Another applause for that collection - we were due to having our own slogans on tees after other versions in other languages.

The slogans re-appeared in SERIOUSLY BLACK. Of course the famous 'SKANDLU' was prominent throughout the show, appearing on sweaters and beanies. Additions were 'OMMI MA', 'X'GHARUKAZA!', and 'INT BIS-SERJETA?'. The collection was also inspired by the designer returning back to his hometown, Birgu (Citta' Vittoriosa) after living in London for three years.

If East London and Birgu had a baby, SERIOUSLY BLACK would be it. The prints on the clothing arise from Birgu's history, with the sword being the main focus of the city's welcome sign. The ripped trousers and long shorts with high-rise boots are characteristics of East London fashion.

Living up to its name, SERIOUSLY BLACK was all black. Kudos to the ever so talented designer for presenting us with yet another alluring, urban street-style collection with a taste of East London fashion brewed with Maltese culture.
